The celebration of iconic composer A.R Rahman is sure to bring back a sense of nostalgia in concert-goers.
KUALA LUMPUR – The Retro Rahman 3.0 concert, the second in a series of concerts organised by Mojo Projects, is set to kick off tomorrow at Zepp KL, here in Bukit Bintang.
The concert, which celebrates renowned Oscar-winning composer A.R Rahman’s retro hits from the 90s to early 2000s, is set to showcase numerous performers including D.Srinivas, S.Haricharan, Sharanya Srinivas, Rakshita Suresh and Abhilash Venkitachalam.
Speaking to the media at the Royale Chulan Hotel, yesterday, Mojo Projects CEO Ratna K. Nadarajan said their first concert under the Mojo Concert Series 2023, ‘KS Chithra Live in Kuala Lumpur’ was a huge success, becoming sold-out just weeks after tickets went on sale.
“On Saturday, we are bringing you the second concert of our series this year, giving our audience an up close and personal experience with the experienced artists,” he said.
Conducting the show in a smaller venue like Zepp KL, Ratna stressed, would allow concert-goers the chance to better experience nostalgic moments with the performers and the songs.
“Both Retro Rahman and Retro Rahman 2.0 back in 2019 had certainly brought in the audience and were successful hits for Mojo (Projects).
“We had an encouraging number of testimonies following our first concert, this year, where they spoke about their experience and the eventful evening that they enjoyed,” he said.
Ticket sales at present were at more than 80%, a number he is confident will run out by concert day.
“There are a few seats left on some seating sections of the show. So fans are encouraged to secure these tickets before they are fully sold,” he added.
The next concert in Mojo’s 2023 series, Ratna added, is the Mojo Live jam, featuring bands Masala Coffee and Staccato, followed by a tribute concert to the legendary late Indian playback singer S P Balasubramaniam featuring his son S.P. Charan; while the fifth will be the Malaysian Independent Live Fusion Festival.
More details, he said will be released in due course.
Meanwhile, for the evergreen Srinivas, having bagged numerous awards including the ‘Kalaimamani’, which is the highest civilian award in the state of Tamil Nadu, India and the Tamil Nadu State film award for Best Male Playback singer, assured concert-goers that they will be in for a delightful time.
“Among the performers and myself, we had curated more than a hundred songs before cutting them down to a final playlist that we are confident will evoke a sense of nostalgia and memories for our audience and fans.
“I am looking forward to serenading all of you. The other performers are looking forward to doing so too,” the 63-year-old added.
